
She was born April 3, 1944, in Philadelphia, PA at Chestnut Hill Hospital to Blanche Mary Abbey and Rev Vincent William Murray. Patricia was the wife of the late John Rutledge King. She was predeceased by her daughter Jennifer Ann. She is survived by her sister, Virginia Hiscock of Barre, VT, her brother, William Murray of Montpelier, VT, and nieces and nephews in Vermont.
Patricia attended Simon’s Rock Early College and went on to graduate from Norwich University with degrees in education and interdisciplinary studies, followed by graduate work in applied behavioral analysis.
She joined the civil rights movement in the 1960’s and worked to register voters in Delaware while assisting local and state candidates sympathetic to the cause of human rights.
In 1972, Patricia married John Rutledge King of Scarsdale, NY and Chatham, MA. They had one daughter; Jennifer Ann.
Patricia was a ski instructor during the Stein Erikson years at Sugarbush Valley, where she met and married Mr. King. Mr. King was general manager of Whiteface Mountain and Sugarbush Valley. The family happily spent winters skiing and summers in Chatham where they indulged their passion for sailing and socializing with good friends.
An active volunteer, Patricia trained volunteers at Mass General as well as volunteering at Cape Cod Hospital, JML, and the Wareham library.
She loved classical music and opera, and would spend long evenings reading while listening to Verdi, Wagner, and sometimes Pink Floyd and Eric Clapton.
Patricia spent many years teaching developmentally disabled adults. She was privileged to mentor two very special ladies for more than 20 years.
Services will be at St. John’s Church in Sandwich, Ma on Wednesday January 4, 2023 at 11am. Burial will follow at the Sandwich Town Cemetery, Route 130, alongside her beloved daughter Jennifer Ann.
