Phyllis Briggs, 84, passed away peacefully on July 30th, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her sister, Janet Fisher; her daughters, Anne O’Toole Starbard and Jennifer O’Toole O’Brien; her sons-in-law, Scott and Colin; her grandchildren, Sean, Molly, Mackenzie, Benjamin, and Evan; her niece, Catherine Fisher; and her nephews, Dean and Matthew Fisher, and their families.
Born in Altoona, PA, and raised in Weymouth, MA, Phyllis lived in East Sandwich for nearly 50 years before moving to Pinehills in Plymouth with her sister, Janet, in 2021. A trained secretary, she began her career at Cabot Corporation and the newly established Dunkin’ Donuts corporate offices in Quincy. Later, on Cape Cod, she worked at First Church of Christ, the Sandwich School System, and local law firm Alger & Schilling. She was among the first 25 employees at Hyannis-based Software 2000/Infinium Software and earned many growth opportunities as the company found success and expanded. As retirement approached, she worked at the front desk of Today Real Estate in Sandwich.
Family, church, and home were at the heart of Phyllis’ life. A devout believer and dedicated member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, she volunteered in many ways after retiring. She cherished her church friends and found purpose in working at the church thrift shop. An avid gardener, nature enthusiast, and animal lover, she created a warm, vibrant backyard sanctuary for herself and all who visited.
In her final years, Phyllis was part of an incredible community of residents and caregivers at Laurelwood in Pinehills. Her family is deeply grateful for the tender, dignified care she received there, along with the compassionate support from the team at Beacon Hospice.
A memorial service will be held on September 19th at 11 AM at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sandwich. Interment will be private. Donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://tinyurl.com/PKBriggs
