He is also survived by his wife Carole (MacDonald) MacKay-Hammond. Richard is also survived by his sister Carol Hammond-Vesce, his son Richard W. Hammond and his wife Lindsey, his daughter Brittany Herring, and her spouse Kelsey and 4 grandchildren. His mother-in-law Nancy E. MacDonald, brother-in-law John C. MacDonald, and sister-in-law Judy Cullahan. Also survived by his dogs Hannah and Bella.
Rich was a good friend to Michael DeFilippis, Jr. Richard was an Eagle Scout Troop 2 Weymouth. He graduated from Weymouth Vocational Technical School. He graduated from Quincy Junior College with a degree in history. Richard worked for UPS as a District Automotive Manager until his retirement in 2020.
Richard enjoyed tinkering with may projects, history and motorcycles. Richard was very kind and had many friends.
A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 154 Route 6A Sandwich, MA with a Funeral Service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers please donate to the American Lung Association at donate.lung.org
