RAUP, Richard Carville, 73 of Sagamore Beach, MA passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on September 1, 2023. He was born in Parkville, Maryland on December 8, 1949 to the late Richard R. Raup and Kathleen M. Raup (Hersch). Richard grew up in Maryland where he graduated from Parkville High School.
After high school, he enrolled in a dual internship and college studies program at Westinghouse and Johns Hopkins University, where he began his formal education as a research scientist. He earned a B.S.E.. an M.S.E.. and a Ph.D. degree in engineering from the Johns Hopkins University and went on to work at MIT Lincoln Laboratories in Massachusetts. While a senior staff member in the Surveillance Techniques Group at MIT, his research focus was in estimation theory and signal processing.
Throughout his life, Richard’s love for music permeated every area of his day and his range of musical interests was impressive. Among other things, he also loved to read, cook and garden, and was always finding opportunities to use his many intellectual and analytical skills to live a full and interesting life.
He is survived by his loving wife Linda B. Stapp with whom he shared 45 years together, his daughter Heather (Raup) Wick and her husband Carl Wick, sister Debra Raup and her husband Robert Statsny as well as grandsons Michael, Dalton and Ryan.
