Mr. Robert J. Courcy, 70, of Bourne, passed away Sunday, January 19th at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Diane I. (Begnoche) Courcy with whom he shared 47 years of marriage.
Born in White Plains, NY, and raised in Taunton, MA, Robert was the son of the late Louis G. and Yvonne M. (Dery) Courcy. Entering at the age of 17, Robert honorably served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS Midway. He then attended and graduated from Northeastern University’s Lincoln College School of Engineering. Robert was employed for 45 years in the field of Structural Engineering before his retirement in October of 2013.
Throughout his life, Robert was an avid athlete. He enjoyed participating in numerous sports (including softball, hockey, running and later in life, golf.) He was also a dedicated Boston sports fan. One of his daughters’ fondest memories was their yearly trip to the Boston Marathon. .
Above all, Robert was the most ethical and honest man his family has ever known. The time he enjoyed the most was that spent with his family. He was a devoted husband; wonderful father and grandfather (known as “Pep”), and loyal friend who will be deeply missed.
In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his loving daughters, Jennifer McKay of Mashpee and Amanda Brouillard and husband John of Westfield, NJ and his beloved grandsons, Zach and Jack. Also survived by his brothers, Ronald L. Courcy and wife Diane M. of Shirley, and Lawrence P. Courcy and wife Valerie J. of Taunton, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Courcy’s Visiting Hours will be held on Friday from 4-8PM in the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 11AM in Corpus Christi Parish, 324 Quaker Meeting House Rd., East Sandwich. Relatives and friends cordially invited. Burial will be private.
