Russell Standish Delano Jr.

January 28, 1938October 15, 2020

Delano, Russell Standish, JR., 82, passed away peacefully in his home in Sandwich, MA on October 15, 2020 after a long illness.

Spending time with his wife, family and friends were the most important thing to Russ. He loved having big family get togethers, telling stories, joking with his close friends, fishing on the canal, hunting out in Colorado, boating and snowmobiling on the Richibucto River. His greatest pleasure was cooking for the family and teasing his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Russ co-owned and retired from Mid Atlantic Refinery Services along with his partner and friend Ben Santacroce. He graduated from Weymouth High School in 1956 where he played football and was co- captain of the first Weymouth High School Ice Hockey Team. He proudly served in the U.S Coast Guard.

Russ is survived by his loving wife Gail (Nee Warren) of 43 years, his sisters Betsy Patterson (Paul), and Susan Russell (Paul) along with his children William J. Delano (Chris) of San Diego, CA, Russell P. Delano (Theresa) of Pilesgrove, NJ, Tanya L. Adamson (Glen) of McDonough, GA, James N. Delano (Barbara) of West Deptford, NJ, Mary E. Delano of Montclair, NJ, Lisa G. Hannay of Rexton NB, Canada, and Thomas J. Delano (Trish) of Rising Sun, MD and loving mentor Nicholas Santacroce. Russ was known as Poppie to his 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren that he absolutely adored. Russ leaves many close friends, nieces and nephews that will miss his humor, his encouragement and his ability to compliment and tease all at the same time. He will always be the beloved Husband, Dad, Brother, Friend, and Poppie to us. Russell was predeceased by his father Russell S. Delano, SR. and his mother Elizabeth Delano (Nee Adylotte).
