Steve was born on March 25th, 1953, to Ruth and Saul Orloff in Boston MA. He grew up in Peabody, MA, with his two brothers Alan, now deceased, and Stuart. He graduated from UMass Amherst with a degree in Communications, and began work at WGBY in Springfield, the public TV station for western MA. He worked as a camera operator and technician, and eventually went freelance as a camera operator, working for networks including ESPN, CBS, and NBC on nearly every major sport on American television. Steve worked for five decades, with a career that took him to every state in the country, to the Olympic Games, and to countries around the world. He won six Emmys for his work on teams broadcasting the X-Games, the US Open, and the Super Bowl. He enjoyed his career deeply, if not the sometimes-lousy weather on the outdoor jobs. He worked right up to the end, accepting jobs as late as early November.
Steve is survived by his child, Sam Orloff, his brother Stuart and his two nephews, Joseph and Michael, and by friends across the country and close to home. He was a devoted father, brother, and friend, who loved cooking for others and the company of his loved ones. He will be dearly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Funeral Service at 12 noon with a visitation from 11:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 154 Route 6A Sandwich, MA.
