Timothy Andrew Lally, 62, of Sandwich, Massachusetts passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully on April 29, 2020 with his wife Maryanne at his side. Tim had spent the day enjoying the spring weather, gardening, and chatting on the phone with loved ones. He was genuinely content and at ease.
Tim was born on November 26, 1957 in Boston, Massachusetts to Martin and Irene (Miller) Lally. He was the youngest of four children. He graduated from Brookline High School in 1975, and Bridgewater State College in 1980. He was a loving son who took great pride in his upbringing, and relished in his “double life” as a Brookline kid who spent every summer on the beach at his family cottage in Manomet, Massachusetts. He never failed to attach gratitude to his fond recollections of both places, and of the people who made those places so dear.
Tim was a longtime resident of Sandwich, Massachusetts, where he and Maryanne raised their family for over three decades. He was a caring husband and beloved father of his two children, Luke and Maura. His family knew him as loving, persevering and unwavering in his dedication to them. Tim truly appreciated living in a community where he was constantly running into friends and acquaintances; it reinforced his affectionate, easy-going demeanor and ability to talk to just about anyone. Over the years he enjoyed participating in the community as well as his church. Tim had many fond memories coaching his children’s sports, co-founding the Sandwich Youth Lacrosse program, and teaching religious education at Corpus Christi Church. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and served monthly meals at the Saint Joseph’s Shelter in Hyannis for his parish, Our Lady of Victory, Centerville. For several years leading up to his passing, Tim was also actively involved in the Residents Encounter Christ (R.E.C) ministry program at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility. He spoke highly and felt deeply about the residents and fellow volunteers with whom he shared his faith. He often said he learned more from them than they did from him.
Tim had recently retired as a Senior Territory Manager for Hubbell, Inc. He was looking forward to a new chapter in his life filled with the people and activities he loved most; annual getaways to Maine with Maryanne, long walks on the beach with his dog Wes, and studying migration patterns for the upcoming fall duck hunting season were among his favorites. He was also eagerly awaiting the arrival of his first grandchild, and had decided on his title of “Grandpa.” Tim passed away knowing only exciting, well-deserved blessings were on the horizon.
Tim is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Irene (Miller) Lally, and his sister Lisa. He leaves behind his wife, Maryanne Sullivan Lally of Sandwich, MA, son Luke and partner Hayley of Amherst, MA, daughter Maura Cavanaugh and husband Matthew of Fort Irwin, CA. Tim is also survived by his brother Thomas and wife Jane of Manomet, MA, and brother Robert and partner Cynthia of Durham, ME, and many nieces and nephews.
Due to current circumstances surrounding COVID-19, the Lally family has chosen to delay services for Tim at this time. It is our wish to wait until a Mass and internment can be held with all beloved family and friends in attendance to honor Tim’s life. It will be held in the summer of 2021. Information regarding services will be announced in the weeks prior.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tim’s name to the Residents Encounter Christ (R.E.C.) Prison Ministry Outreach, PO Box 2565, Hyannis, MA 02601.
