

Virginia S. Richardson (Sherman) passed away at Cape Cod Hospital on October 5, 2026, at the age of 84, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Knoxville, TN on October 20, 1941, to the late Charles Sherman and Catherine Engler (Law).
She grew up and graduated from High School in NJ at Summit high school, she then went on and graduated from Averett College. After marrying James, the love of her life, they started a family, from that time on her family was her life. She was a constant positive force in her entire family’s life. After raising 5 children and preparing them for life she and James embarked on their second life at Cape Cod where they enjoyed another 30 years with each other. Her biggest joys were when her whole family could be together for a holiday or for any other reason. Affectionately referred to as grandma she had a special relationship with all her grandchildren. She loved nothing more than Sewing Halloween costumes, prom dresses, curtains or anything anyone needed. She was also an avid gardener, together with James they crafted some of the most beautiful gardens in NJ as well as on cape cod. As a home economics major there was almost nothing she couldn’t or wouldn’t do. Virginias other true love was her NY Yankees; she watched every game that she could and knew the whole team by name.
Virginia is survived by her loving husband, James Patrick Richardson; and her children, Amy Sigafoos and her husband Michael of Bethlehem Pa, Christopher Richardson and his wife Debbie of Califon NJ, Patrick Richardson and His wife Naomi of Centerville Mass, and Rebecca Richardson Gray and Her husband Richard of East Sandwich Mass and her sister Barbara Engler as well as her Grandchildren James, Judy, Hannah, Chance, Dillon, Ryan, Corey, Sam, Simon, Henry, Annie, Jane , Sophie, Emily, Julia, and Rick as well as her great grandchildren Charles, Bobby, and Margeret and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her oldest son Jonathan and her sister Katie Ann.
Virginia was cherished by those who knew her and will be remembered for the steady compassion and kind-heartedness she brought to her family and to all who had the privilege of sharing in her life. Her devotion was evident in the care she gave, the love she offered, and the enduring presence she held within her home and among those closest to her.
