

Al was born on January 11, 1947 to Alfred J. Fowler and Kathleen Belk Fowler in Monroe, N.C. After Al (Lamar) graduated from Monroe High School in 1965 being actively involved in the Marching Band holding roles as Drum Major and Band President, he went on to study history at NC State University developing his love for politics.
After graduating with a degree in History, he started his first job at the Record Bar as a Store Manager kickstarting a career in retail which led him to Los Angeles where he lived for 22 years until he returned to Atlanta in 1996. He rekindled his passion for politics with being Mayor of Pine Lake, Georgia for 4 years and then joined the DeKalb County Government - DeKalb County Police Department as a Public Education Specialist in Public Safety for 18 years.
Al is survived by his beloved partner of 51 years, Eugene (Gene) Kiernan; sister, Phyllis Fowler Gray; niece, Whitney Fowler Gray; nephew, Hunter Lane Gray; and his three fur babies.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 26 at 1:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta (Winship Chapel), 1328 Peachtree St, NE, Atlanta, GA 30309. (Parking is directly across Peachtree Street)
On June 12th, 2025, a graveside memorial service at Lakeland Memorial in Monroe, NC will held where his ashes will be laid to rest with his mother, Kathleen Belk Fowler. At 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of the United States.
