Alice M Smith

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM (EST) on Sunday, November 2nd, 2025, in the Arlington Chapel of H.M.Patterson & Son Funeral home, 173 Allen Road NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328, with Reverend David Shivers officiating. The family will receive friends and family immediately after the service at the funeral home. A private family service will be held at a later date.

Alice was born January 19th, 1931 in Bayou Meto, Arkansas and was the youngest daughter of the late Ethel and Joseph Miller. She was married to her husband Benjamin Gainer (B.G.) Smith for 67 years. She graduated from De Witt High School in De Witt Arkansas in 1949. After graduating from high school, Alice moved to Atlanta, Georgia.

In 1955 she started her career in the United States Army, in their Management Information Systems Office (MISO)/Forcecom at Fort McPherson. There she served for 41 years where she held many roles, including Computer Technician within their Data Support Division. During her tenure she received several promotions and accommodations for her excellent performance and proficiency in Computer and Systems support. In January of 1995, she retired from her civilian post with the United States Army.

After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her husband and helping raise their 3 grandchildren. Alice loved watching all types of sports, tv dramas and reading many different types of novels and autobiographies about people who interested her. She also enjoyed work around the house and caring for her many types of plants that she kept on her beloved sunporch, which was her favorite place to relax and enjoy life with her husband, 2 children and 3 grandchildren.

Alice will be missed tremendously by all of her family and friends, however, we know that God, her loving Heavenly Father, has a spectacular home for her and her husband, where she is also reunited with her parents and all those that proceeded her in death. One of her final requests was that no one feel sadness for her passing, only joy, knowing that she is no longer experiencing any suffering, sorrow, pain nor tears, but made fully whole and happy again.

Alice was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Bullock Miller, her father Joseph Carl Miller. Her sister Lurlene (Boots) Griffith, her two brothers Carl Miller and Joseph Miller and her late husband Benjamin Gainer Smith II. Survivors include her two children Gainer Smith and Cary Smith; his partner Steven Miles, her three grandchildren Stephanie Smith Barfoot and her husband Bryan Barfoot, Joseph Smith, his wife Brittany Smith and their daughter Evelyn Smith, lastly Allen Smith and his wife Raleigh Smith and their daughter Eden Azalea Smith.
