Anne Kelly English Schweitzer was born in Clones, County Monahan, Ireland, the youngest child of Thomas and Catherine Kelly on June 6, 1927. Anne was educated as a nurse in Dublin and came to Montreal and eventually to the U.S.A. where she became a very proud and dedicated citizen. My lovely wife Anne and I were married in Spring Lake, Michigan on September 15, 1962. During our 48 years together, Anne was a leader and friend to those who knew her. She created and was the first President of the Lucy (flower) Guild. As the inspiration for and the only President of the Anne and Richard Schweitzer Education Foundation, she made possible the scholarships for superior education opportunity for many bright pre-school, university and medical college students and even parents entirely in the inner city of Metro Atlanta. Anne was a longtime (over 30 years) volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital in downtown Atlanta and Sandy Springs arranging flowers for the patients and their friends and family. She truly loved gardening and flower arranging and shared that special talent easily with her collaborators, friends and especially our neighbors. A volunteer and supporter over our 43 years in Atlanta of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation in addition to her support from her educational foundation. Anne died peacefully with many friends at her side on October 6, 2010 with the fine and loving care at the HOSPICE Atlanta from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. She was the last of all of her “Kelly clan” with many of their family decedents living in Canada and Ireland. A very caring, soft spoken, strong willed, lovely woman will be missed by all, especially me. The Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 4465 Northside Drive, NW, Atlanta on Monday, October 11, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with burial at the church immediately following. An Irish Wake in her memory, since she is remembered as a superb hostess, will be held at home after the funeral services. The members of the Lucy Guild will provide the beautiful flowers. Memorials for Anne can be directed to the Solidarity School, Jamie Arthur, Head of School, 120 Northland Ave., Sandy Springs, GA 30342 or HOSPICE Atlanta, 5775 Glenridge Drive NE, Ste E200, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
