Arthur B. Jones III, an Atlanta native and lifelong artist, passed away August 16, 2026 surrounded by the love of family and friends. Born August 12, 1935, to Sarah Frances Byrd Jones and Arthur B. Jones II, he grew up in Grant Park, where he sold snow cones at Lakewood Speedway as a boy, worked as a lifeguard, and later served in the Air National Guard.
Arthur built a successful dental laboratory and held several leadership positions in the National Association of Dental Laboratories. He was a lifelong artist who began painting as a child and never stopped. He auctioned countless works for charity and was a member of the Georgia Watercolor Society and Dunwoody Fine Arts. He played Dixieland banjo with a banjo band that brought joy to countless residents of nursing homes. An avid boater and sailor, he also helped fund the founding of the Dunwoody Nature Center.
He was married for 58 years to his beloved wife Carolyn Monroe Jones, who predeceased him. Together they happily raised two daughters, Lynn Jones Coleman and Jill Jones Damron. Later in life, after Carolyn’s passing, Arthur found love again with Heidi McMickle Jones. They shared six happy years of marriage.
Arthur was the very proud grandfather of Bryan Arthur Jones, Sarah Grace Bottomly, Virginia Lynn Wells, and Grant David Coleman, and the proud great-grandfather of Lila Beatrice Bottomley and Cecilia Monroe Coleman. Arthur is also survived by his sister Patricia Burch.
Arthur never met a stranger. He had countless friends and genuinely loved people. He was a one-of-a-kind special man who will be truly missed by everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
Visitation will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son-Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road Ne, Sandy Springs, GA 30328, US, on August 23, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at the same location on August 23, 2026, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.
Burial will take place at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt Vernon Hwy NW, Sandy Springs, GA 30328, US, on August 23, 2026, from 2:45 pm to 3:30 pm.
