Barbara Jean Tavormina

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Barbara followed her dreams to New York City after receiving a full scholarship to Columbia University. Upon graduation, she pursued a remarkable career in the performing arts. A gifted and exceptional tap dancer, singer, and actress, she became a Radio City Music Hall Rockette and went on to appear in two Broadway musicals and many other productions in the New York theatre scene. Her talent, grace, and love of performing revealed the creative spirit that remained with her throughout her life.

During her years on stage in New York, Barbara married her beloved husband, Joe. For 62 years, Barbara and Joe shared a devoted partnership, creating a family and a lifetime of memories side by side. Yet the performer in Barbara never disappeared. She continued to sing and act throughout her life, finding joy in sharing her talents with others even as her most important role became that of wife and mother. Although she treasured her years on stage, Barbara often said that her greatest production was her son, Clay. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a wonderful mother-in-law to Addie. Barbara’s greatest happiness came from spending time with the people she loved. She considered it a blessing to have her son and daughter-in-law as next-door neighbors sharing in the everyday moments of life.

Barbara’s love of creating never faded. In her later years, she rediscovered her love of art through drawing and found great joy in her weekly art class. During her 13 years living in Georgia, Barbara truly cherished the beauty of its towering trees, vibrant flowers, and ever-changing skies. With the eye of an artist, she said, “God is the best artist,” a phrase that perfectly expressed her appreciation and the joy she found in Georgia’s natural beauty.

Barbara also loved beauty in everyday life. She delighted in dressing up, always took pride in looking her best, and rarely missed an opportunity to have her hair and nails done. She carried herself with the same elegance and sparkle that had graced the Broadway stage years before.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Terry and Antoinette Marcon. She is survived by Joe, her dear husband of 62 years; her son, Clay; daughter-in-law, Addie; her sweet dog, Georgia, the faithful companion that brought her much happiness; and dear extended family and friends.

A private burial will be held on Thursday August 6, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

From the bright lights of Broadway to the love she poured into her family, Barbara lived a beautiful life filled with creativity, grace, and love. She is already deeply missed and will forever stay in the hearts of those of us who loved her.
