Mrs. Latimer (Barbara Ann Brimberry) was born in Albany, GA on September 9, 1927 to the late Mildred and Marion Brimberry. Mrs. Latimer passed away on December 20, 2024. She was 97 years old and was preceded in death by her husband, John Perry Latimer.
Mrs. Latimer attended Brenau University and graduated from The University of Georgia. UGA is where she met the love of her life – John Latimer (affectionately known to all as “Pug”). They married in 1951, “planted” themselves in Sandy Springs and never left. They celebrated 51 years of marriage before Pug passed away in 2002.
After college, Mrs. Latimer began working at the Public Health Department in downtown Atlanta. After moving to the suburbs, she stayed home to raise her two daughters, but once they were older, she went back to work as a teacher at Wesleyan Day School and taught four-year-olds for twenty years. After retiring from teaching, she took a little break and then went back into the workforce as an administrative professional.
She loved playing cards, was an avid bridge player and voracious reader of all kinds of books. She had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. She was a wizard at crossword puzzles and sudoku. One of the passions of her life was Georgia Football. She was a diehard Bulldog fan and loved watching the Dawgs play.
She was the happiest sitting on the beach with her toes in the sand. Her love of the beach was surpassed only by her love of family.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Smith and her husband, Ronnie of Marietta, GA; Kathy Victor and her husband, Jeff of Columbus, GA; grandchildren, Christopher Perry Smith and his wife, Kristy of Chattahoochee Hills, GA; Michelle Smith Byrd and her husband Rob of Chattanooga, TN and Jeffrey Victor of Columbus, GA; and great granddaughter, Faryn Smith.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Funeral Services will be Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 2 o’clock at The Sunrise Chapel at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mount Vernon Hwy., Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
