She was born to Jack and Frances Felker on Feb. 13, 1924, in Bostwick, Ga, and grew up in Atlanta.
She married Paul Clifford Wagnon on June 6, 1943, and they had a daughter, Mary Frances (“Mimi”) Wagnon. Cliff was killed in action in Germany on November 25, 1944. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for his brave service to our country.
Betty was married on August 8, 1947, to Dan Lee Grant, who also served his country as an Air Force Pilot, completing 36 missions over Germany. They moved to Perry, GA, and later lived in Houston, Atlanta, and St. Simons.
Betty and Dan were avid golfers and lived a rich social life. They also loved to travel, even embarking on a cross-country road trip that spanned several months. Dan passed away in 1988, following a battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Betty lived at Mount Vernon Towers towards the end of her life and enjoyed friends (both residents and staff), bridge, and activities, especially singing with the “Melodears”. Betty was also a member of Sandy Springs Methodist Church for 40 years.
Betty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lawson Spence; grandchildren, Scott (Trisha), Jeff (Karen), and Leigh Jackson (Brian); and great-grandchildren, Connor, Owen, Sophie, and Mia.
Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, at H.M. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, located on Allen Road. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30 a.m., followed by a reception.
Known as “Mo” to those who loved her, she will always be remembered for being a gracious hostess, a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and an elegant Southern lady.
