Betty McKnight Riddle passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loved ones late Friday night at the age of 88. She was born in Asheville, North Carolina on September 25, 1930 to Charles McKnight and Bonnie Crowell McKnight. Betty graduated from the Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina Greensboro, and became a teacher whose intelligence and passion touched the lives of many. Betty married C.D. “Buck” Riddle in 1955, and was a devoted and loving wife throughout the entirety of their 63 year marriage. Betty had three sons, and as the mother of three boys, her strength and grace helped raise a tight-knit family, which grew to include five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Betty was a woman always on the go, who split her time between Atlanta, GA and her greatly beloved “Applehaus” in Burnsville, NC. She will always be remembered for her eloquence, selflessness, and strong spirit. Betty is survived by her husband and her three sons David, Mike, and Scott, as well as their respective families. Those whose lives Betty shone her light upon are invited to celebrate the incredibly full life she led at 2:00 PM, Wednesday December 12th at Patterson's Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. A reception will follow. In the spirit of Betty’s altruism, the family requests donations be made to the Atlanta Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
