Carol Harwood

Carol Jean Harwood nee Hughson (age 89) passed away peacefully at Brighton Gardens of Dunwoody, GA on Thursday, June 18, 2026. She was born on August, 24, 1936 in Toronto, Canada to mother Mary Letitia Isabel, nee Bradish and father Murray Gordon Hughson. Carol was proud to be a BSN graduate of the University of Toronto and worked in nursing while her husband, Robert Alexander Harwood completed his medical training. She was a dedicated mother, and raised her busy family in London, Ontario, Canada until immigrating to Atlanta, GA in 1977.

She is survived by her sister, Janet Clark, who resides in Toronto, her children, Susan, Robert and Jennifer, her sons-in-law Brannan and Doug, her daughter-in-law, Susan, and her grandchildren McKenna, Robert, Corbett, Pierce, Jessica, Allison, Connor, Charlotte and James who live in the Atlanta area. When her youngest child entered high school, Carol earned her realtor license and was very successful in the north Atlanta market through the 80's and early 90's. Carol and Bob enjoyed retirement on Siesta Key, Fl where they became proficient golfers, world travelers and exemplary hosts of many visitors. She was Bob’s diligent caregiver in his final months until his passing in August 1998. Carol was an amazing home cook, steadfast supporter of family and friends, and prolific needleworker.

In later life, Carol married Gordon Thompson of Toronto Canada and together they enjoyed quiet summers on beautiful Go Home Lake hosting family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A private family service will be held at a later date.
