Carol Louise Lindenbaum passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25th in Atlanta, surrounded by her loving family, and an angelic caregiver of 10 years after a brief illness. Though the world has lost one of its brightest lights, Carol left an indelible mark on the countless people touched by her kindness, compassion, beauty, and limitless capacity for spreading joy.
Carol Louise Becker was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1950 where she attended the University of Cincinnati and met David Lindenbaum, her loving husband of 55 years. Following marriage in 1971, Carol moved to Northern Virginia where she graduated from George Mason University and later taught preschool. In 1975, the couple moved to Atlanta and began building a business, a family, and a community of friends that still endures today. Carol was a loving and devoted partner to David; and a loving “super mom” (the only job she ever wanted) to her most fortunate sons, Josh, Todd, and Mark.
She found profound happiness in raising her children and spending precious time with friends and family in Atlanta, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, Michigan and Massachusetts. Later, she and David expanded their community to include Boca Grande, Florida. Carol also had the opportunity to travel extensively in the U.S. and the world, where she never met a stranger and formed genuine connections with people from all walks of life. She loved singing in choirs, conducting seniors’ song therapy, and enticing friends and family to participate in fun home Karaoke.
Carol’s desire to love and help others knew no limit. In addition to being the anchor of her family, she improved the lives of those less fortunate through volunteer work with children, Special Olympics, and church benefits.
The true depth of Carol’s character was revealed after a tragic hiking accident in 2012. The courage and grit she showed in recovering from severe injuries was matched only by the relentless positivity and gratitude she shared with her adoring family, friends, and caregivers.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents Alfred & Dorothy Becker, and her in-laws Sol & Dorothy Lindenbaum.
Carol is survived by her husband David Lindenbaum (Atlanta); sons Josh (Briana) in Portland, OR; Todd (Kendall) in Santa Barbara, CA; and Mark (Lauren) in Atlanta, GA; grandchildren Lucy, Guy, & Cece (Atlanta) and Millie & Annie (Portland); siblings June Sereque (Pete) & Howard Becker (Linda); and a sister-in-law Joan Stern (Mike).
Carol’s family and friends mourn her passing with great sorrow, while taking comfort in her memory and legacy—and in the knowledge that she brightened the world with her smiles and kindness every day of her life.
A private Celebration of Life will occur in the future. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Carol’s honor to the The Shepherd Center Beyond Therapy Program, 2020 Peachtree Road | Atlanta, GA 30309.
