Charles William Almand

Charles William Almand (Bill) passed away peacefully on January 30th. Born on November 14, 1934, Bill is survived by his wife Shirley with whom he enjoyed 57 years of marriage and his older brother Danny (Gloria) of Nashville, Tennessee. Bill will be greatly missed by his three daughters, Katherine (Dennis) Flanagan, Suzanne (Michael) Gladle and Joanna David (Richard). Known as Poppa to his grandchildren, he will be lovingly cherished and remembered by Katie Flanagan, Jennifer Flanagan, Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Gladle (Meghan), Tyler Gladle, William David and Nate David. Bill earned his undergraduate degree from The University of Georgia and his Masters in Geology from Emory University. Bill served in the Army in Anchorage, Alaska during the Korean Conflict and then later started his career with The Dow Chemical Company. Bill worked in agrichemical sales for the Imperial Chemical Company (ICI US) for most of his life and eventually retired from The Floridan Corporation in 1997. Bill grew up in Garden Hills and attended North Fulton High School. He remained an active member of The Buckhead Boys and dedicated alumnus to the Chi Phi fraternity at UGA. Bill will be most remembered as a sharp pool player and faithful fan of the Georgia Bulldogs. Bill was always an eager traveler and willing to try any transport available from planes, cars, ships and buses, to mopeds, gondolas, trains, canoes, helicopters, jet-skis, and even the occasional elephant. Bill was an active member of Mount Vernon Baptist church in Sandy Springs, and most recently Big Canoe Chapel. A visitation for friends and family will be held Tuesday, Feb 3 from 1 to 2 pm with a memorial service following at 2 pm at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road in Sandy Springs.
