

Charles Craig, age 86, died on April 29, 2015. Charles was born in Christiansburg, VA on December 3, 1928 to late parents Charles Lewis Craig and Kate Lester Craig. He grew up in Norfolk, where he graduated from Maury High School. Charles briefly attended Virginia Tech and subsequently graduated from William and Mary, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma and president of the interfraternity council. Following graduation, he entered the army and served as an artillery officer with Korean infantry during that war. Upon discharge, he joined Equitable Life Assurance Society in Richmond, later transferred to Raleigh, and finally moved to Atlanta in 1962. In 1978, he established the Atlanta office of Mutual of America as Vice President, where he remained until his retirement. Subsequently, he devoted a good deal of his time to volunteer work, primarily at the Shepherd Center, where he accumulated more than 2,000 hours and at the Atlanta Humane Society. Charles was a member of Cherokee Town and Country Club and, earlier, several other organizations in the Atlanta area, including University Yacht Club, where he enjoyed sailing. Charles was a member of Northside United Methodist Church and was a long-time member of their Chancel Choir. Charles will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and a true gentleman. Charles is preceded in death by his brother, Richard Blair Craig of Richmond, VA. Charles is survived by his daughter Cathy Rollins, her husband Art Rollins and their three children all of Atlanta; daughter Charlotte Lindeman, her husband Richard Lindeman and their three children all of Lookout Mountain, TN; and long-time dear friend and companion Doris Shelton of Atlanta. The body was cremated and the ashes scattered in the historic Craig Cemetery in Christiansburg, VA. The memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 6th, 2:00 p.m., at Northside Church, located at 2799 Northside Drive in Atlanta. The family will receive visitors one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shepherd Center, Atlanta Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
