Charles J. Lipton

Chuck Lipton was former Sales Executive with WTOC-TV, Savannah, and Sales/Marketing Manager with WAGA-TV, Atlanta, for 25 years. In high school and college, he had his own dance band, and played for many affairs at the Universities of Florida and Alabama. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama, and upon graduation entered the broadcast business in Savannah. Chuck served with the Marines in the South Pacific during World War II, with the III Amphibious Corps and 1st Marine Provisional Brigade, participating in the Guadalcanal, Vella La Vella, and the assault and recapture of Guam. After the Guam campaign, he was assigned to Officer Candidates School at Quantico, VA, and upon graduation was appointed Instructor, Marine Corps Schools. Recalled to active duty for the Korean War, 1st Lt. Lipton served with the famed 1st Marines during the epic Chosin Reservoir campaign and Central Korea. His military memberships include The Chosin Few, Marine Mustangs, 1st Marine Division Association, and the Marine Corps Reserve Officers Association. He had been active in several civic, business, and social organizations during his lifetime: Kiwanis Club, American Business Club, President, Harmonie Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Co-Founder, Atlanta Broadcast Executives Club, Charter Member, President & Trustee, Atlanta Chapter, National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Board member, Atlanta Advertising Club, Standard Club, American Jewish Committee, and The Temple. An avid golfer, he scored four holes-in-one at the Standard Club. Since his retirement, he was associated with his wife’s business, ChickiBea, Inc. Chuck was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Chicki, and is survived by his daughter, Joanne Lipton (David Baker); son, John Lipton (Ranessa); two grandchildren, Michelle and Brian Lipton; sister, Mrs. Rubye Safer of Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service is being held at 2 o’clock on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs.
