Christopher Andrew Rascoe, Jr., beloved son of Leslie and Christopher Rascoe, cherished brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, passed away on November 25, 2024, in Oxford, England, at the age of 24.
Christopher attended The Westminster Schools in Atlanta, GA, where he excelled academically achieving the Georgia Certificate of Merit, National Merit Scholar, and National Honor Society. Captain of the Policy Debate Team, Christopher was a nationally ranked debater and recipient of the Alan A. Lewis Forensics Award. He received his B.A. in Economics magna cum laude with Honors from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. He began his postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford, England pursuing his M.Phil. in Economics. Particularly interested in Macroeconomics, Christopher hoped to go on to do doctoral work and ultimately serve as an academic economist. Christopher was excited about University of Oxford and his admission to Christ Church College.
Christopher’s curiosity and thirst for knowledge were boundless and started from an early age. He began reading at age 3 and doing complex math equations by 4. His parents could take him on any family outing—a museum, a hike, a boat ride—as long as he had a book, pen, and journal, he was perfectly content. He consumed books about all subjects—math, science, philosophy, religion, literature, meditation, history, and music. A lifelong learner, Christopher was as gifted with numbers as he was with letters. His teachers, friends, and loved ones marveled at his vast knowledge, yet he always retained his quiet humility.
While Christopher was brilliant, it was his kind, gentle, and humble soul that resonated with those around him. Christopher was deeply empathetic and always helped others, including his elderly grandparents. He was a devoted and sweet brother to his little sisters, assisting them at every turn. He was his parents’ best friend, counsel, and confidante. His tall, quiet, calming presence centered his family and extended family of beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. There was never an unkind word that passed through his lips. Christopher’s smile lit up a room. Laughing often, he had an easy sense of humor. He was the first to laugh at the jokes of others, even those that weren’t funny. He prioritized people’s feelings.
The first of 10 grandchildren in a tight-knit family, we cherish every memory of beach trips, Western Carolina weekends and adventures great and small, traveling to the ends of the earth together.
In his 24 years of life, Christopher made an indelible mark on the world. In the loving words of Winnie the Pooh to Christopher Robin: “If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, the most important thing is, keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever.” Christopher will never be forgotten and indeed, live in our hearts forever. We will love you eternally.
Christopher was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Dr. Neal H. Newsom and is survived by his loving parents, Leslie and Christopher Rascoe, and his adoring sisters Brooke and Caroline Rascoe. Grandparents: Dr. Edwin & Anita Rascoe and Lisa Newsom. Jane Moore (honorary). Aunts, Uncles and Cousins: Julie Rascoe. Bradley, Brigitte, Berkeley, Bryce and Bliss Newsom. Andrew, Shannon, Cooper and Susanna Newsom. Ansley (Newsom), Deane, Tatum and Rhys Kreitler. Lifelong friend Alex Greene, girlfriend Jediah Agbossoumonde, and many friends who loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at noon on February 22nd at Pressly Hall, The Westminster Schools with reception to follow at The Chastain Horse Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Christopher Andrew Rascoe Jr. Memorial Funds at The Westminster Schools, or at Christ Church College, Oxford University or the charity of your choice.
