

Claudia Zimmerman passed away peacefully on April 25th at her daughter Karen Gomez’s house in Cherokee County. She was the widow of Tom Zimmerman, with whom she shared 49 and three quarters years of marriage.
Claudia was born in Gooding, Idaho on August 1, 1944, the youngest of eight children. After attending high school in Jerome, Idaho, she graduated valedictorian at the St. Alphonsus Hospital School of Nursing in Boise, Idaho in June of 1965. She served four years as an Army nurse, a significant portion of that time working in a MASH unit in Vietnam, where she married Tom. In the late 60’s, the couple moved to Maryland and Claudia continued working as a nurse at the medical clinic at the Bowie Race Track. She was known and much admired for her skills as a seamstress, a Sunday school teacher, a conversationalist, and a mother.
She is survived by her six children: David Zimmerman, Amy Zimmerman, Karen Gomez, Beth Zimmerman-Evans, Patrick Zimmerman, and Lisa Zimmerman, 7 grandchildren, and 2 sisters.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday April 28 at 4:30pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 6449 Glenridge Dr. in Sandy Springs. Burial will be private at Georgia National Cemetery with military honors.
