Dorothena “Dottie” Cleveland Smith, a long-time resident of Sandy Springs, passed away on September 7, 2018. She was born to Clyde Parrott and Ambrose Cleveland on April 17, 1927 in Fayette County, Georgia. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 53 years, Dale, who passed away in 2003. Dottie was the youngest of 9 children, all of whom have pre-deceased her. She is survived by sons, Bruce (Deborah) of Roswell and Scott (Anne) of Vinings, and grandchildren, Taylor and Alex Smith, and Emma and Robert Smith. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, who held a special place in her heart, notably Lynn Strickland, who was like the daughter she never had. Dottie was a loving and faithful member of the Peachtree Road United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She served in many leadership roles, among them, Chairman of the Altar Guild, six-time President of the United Methodist Women, and an active member of the Friendship Sunday School class. Additionally, she was a lifetime member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Piedmont Hospital. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Dottie Smith to Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 14, 2018, 2:00pm at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, with a reception to follow in Grace Hall.
