

He was born in Dallas, Texas to Earnest and Pauline. His father was a career Army officer thus his early years involved many moves and schools graduating from high school in Anchorage, Alaska. His Bachelor’s degree was from Texas A&M University and his Master’s degree from Webster University in Saint Louis. He entered Active Duty in 1960 and served in East Africa, Iran, Taiwan, Korea, and Vietnam. He attended several military schools including Airborne training and the Command & General Staff College. Military assignments included administration, command, and duty in the Department of the Army Staff. He received numerous awards including three Bronze Stars, two Meritorious Service Medals, the Air Medal, and the Vietnam Staff Services Medal. He retired in 1979 and spent the next 18 years with Snapper Lawn Mower company managing the production and purchasing departments.
Earnest’s first wife, Shirley from Louisville, KY, passed away in early 1990 after 28 years of marriage. His second wife, Betty; was from Bristol, TN, who passed away in Sept 2020 after 30 years of marriage. Altogether they had 6 children and 10 grandchildren. He is survived by Mr. Scott Robertson, Mr. Christopher Robertson, Mrs. Cynthia Watkins, Mr. David Bruce, and Ms. Susan Starnes plus the grandchildren. He was active in Scouting, was a life member of the 196th Light Infantry Association and the Signal Officer Candidate Association of which he was on the Board of Directors for many years. In addition, he was the National Secretary of the Airborne Association. He was active in neighborhood projects, and he served on the Board of the local Golf Association in Rivermont subdivision. He loved golf and played every chance he could, even getting a hole in one! He and Betty were longtime members of the Rivermont Country Club and the Roswell United Methodist Church.
His last three years were spent at Vickery Rose Retirement Community where he was actively involved in Welcome Wagon, Bingo, Rummy Cube, Poker, and the Military groups. He truly enjoyed living here and made many friends.
He will be interred at Arlington Memorial Park, Sandy Springs on November 18th at 2PM.
