Ed had me model for his classes at Abernathy Art Center and it was always a pleasure working for, as well as knowing, him. His classes were easygoing, but all of us--Ed, the students, and myself--were focused on what we were there for. I liked Ed's down-to-earth style and it was fun talking with him. I'm sorry another creative force has left us, and we can no longer interact with him, but have the man he was and his art that will linger.

I was very lucky to take figure drawing/painting classes with Ed at Abernathy Arts Center for a couple of years. Lucky in several ways: 1- you had to be quick to sign up as Ed’s classes filled up almost immediately. Lucky because Ed was so knowledgeable , kind and generous as a teacher. I learned so much from him. I am grateful to have known him as a teacher and a genuinely nice person. He will be missed.

My heart goes out to all who love Mr. Horlbeck. An always kind, funny and intelligent gentleman. A wonderful artist and proud father. I was lucky to have known him through Jackie and Lexie even just a little.
My deepest sympathy to all who will grieve this great loss.
Peace and love,
Leigh B.

Jacqueline, Alexis, and family,
We are so sorry to hear of your loss! We chatted many times in the parking lot at IHM and other occasions while waiting for you girls. He was always a gentle kind soul, a gentleman. He loved you both very much! May his soul Rest In Peace...
