

Edward Dale Nichols, 89, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away peacefully at home after fighting a brave battle against cancer March 19, 2017. Mr. Nichols is preceded in death by his wife, MaryAnn Watson Nichols; son, Edward Dale Nichols Jr; brother, Dr. Paul Hooper Nichols Jr; nephew, Steven Gray Nichols; mother, Mrs. Anne Crenshaw Nichols; and father, Mr. Paul Hooper Nichols. Mr. Nichols is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Julie Nichols Cook (Gregory) of Carrollton, GA; grandson, Brenton Franklin Cook (Abby) of Atlanta, GA; wife, Gloria Fonville Nichols; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Mickey Duvall Nichols of Atlanta, GA, Mrs. Martha Watson Pasley of West Palm Beach, FL; nephews, Dr. Paul Hooper Nichols III (Sharon) of Lake Charles, LA, Mr. James Odell Nichols (Heather) of Atlanta, GA; nieces, Mrs. Harriet Nichols Allgood (Sonny) of Toccoa, GA, Ms. Laura Pasley Thornton of West Palm Beach, FL; as well as many great nephews and nieces. Mr. Nichols was a life-long Atlanta resident. He attended North Fulton High School, The McCallie School in TN, graduating from The Marist School in 1947. He earned a degree in History from Emory University in 1952 and also earned a degree in Civil Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Mr. Nichols was a member of the Buckhead Boys Club and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He served in the United States Naval Reserves. Mr. Nichols worked for P.H. Nichols and Co and retired from the Fulton Co. Health Dept. He was both a member of the Cathedral of St Philip and the Church of the Atonement. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 11 o’clock with the family receiving friends beginning at 10 o’clock at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd., NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Atlanta or The Atlanta Human Society.
