In a room full of love, surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends, Edward James Trainor of Dunwoody, GA passed away December 23, 2017. The world lost one of the most patient, caring, curious, and friendly people it has ever seen. Ed’s legacy lives on through all of those to whom he taught what was most important in life - truly caring for others.
Ed is survived by his wife Colleen, children Bridget (Andrew) Doss, John (Heather) Trainor, stepchildren Brigid (Fred) Bartholomai, Amy (George) Williams, Dinah Biggs, and Mark (Stephanie) Foster, sisters Margaret Johnson and Dorothy (David) Damm, and grandchildren Jack, Mason, William, Phillip, Nicolas, Lucy, John, Aislinn, Joseph, Zoe, Joshua, Max, Bernadette, and Michael.
Ed was the baby brother who was the answer to the constant prayers of his two older sisters in their house on Rochelle Ave in East Detroit. Early on, he showed his gift of being a caring friend to everyone he met. He and his first wife had two children and moved to Georgia. As a loving father, he showed Bridget and John the value of respecting and helping everyone. He worked in retail, inventory, and warehouse management, but his real work was in finding ways he could help others.
A few years after attending every single mass so he could “accidentally” bump into this beautiful redhead named Colleen, he married the love of his life and gained a family that would transform his next 30 years. Colleen, his children, stepchildren, and the grandkids that they gave him, became his world. Ed might have been busier during his retirement as an avid supporter of all of his talented grandchildren's endeavors. Whether it was the legendary Christmas Eve get togethers or his retirement role as “kid chauffeur,” this large family gave Ed so much joy each and every day. This same family was surrounding him in the days and minutes just before he left us.
The family will receive visitors Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 6pm to 8pm at H.M. Patterson & Son-Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30328. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, December 29, 2017, 3pm, at All Saints Catholic Church, 2443 Mt Vernon Rd, Dunwoody, GA 30338 with burial following at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt Vernon Hwy NW, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Ed would have expected you to bring your own map. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ed’s memory may be made to Birthright of Atlanta at 3424 Hardee Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30341.
