Fred Earl Hill, 88, of Forsyth County, died on February 14, 2025. On April 6th 1936 the deadliest tornado in the Southeast hit Georgia. On that day, Fred Earl Hill was born in Stockbridge, Georgia. Folklore says the tornado hopped over his mother's house while giving birth and gave Fred an endless supply of energy. Fred grew up in the Five Points area of Atlanta where he lettered in 4 sports at Bass High School. He started working after school at Toby Sexton Tires and picked up smoking unfiltered Pall Mall's at 13 yrs old. Fred was a member of the Army reserve. While attending Georgia State University night program, he continued his love of tires at Gordy Tire for 25 years. In 1961, Fred married his faithful wife Marilyn Turner of Atlanta. In 1976, Fred and his brother John Hill started Hill Tire Company in Forest Park, Ga. Fred's outgoing personality, hard work and dedication to employees made him a stalwart in the tire industry. In 2015 Hill Tire had expanded to five stores across the Southeast and was sold to Continental Tire. Fred retired at the age of 85, but always enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, gambling, and spending time with family and friends. Mr. Hill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marilyn Turner Hill; daughter, Sherri Hill Kennedy (Terry); sons, Allen Fred Hill (Holly) and David Earl Hill (Andrea); grandchildren, Justin Kennedy (Jenny), Taylor Kennedy (Taylor), Erin Hill, Charlie Hill, Turner Hill, and Drew Hill; and great-grandchildren, Brooks and Leila Kennedy, and Landon and Cade Kennedy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Services will be held at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 1722 Oak Grove Rd., Decatur, GA 30033, on Friday, February 28, 2025, with visitation at 11:00am, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00pm. A reception will follow the services.
