

Fred Wells Wulfing passed away on February15, 2017 surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Thomas Wulfing; children Anne Wulfing Lauten (David) of Columbia SC, John Thomas Wulfing of the Chicago area, Kathryn Wells Wulfing of Alexandria VA; grandchildren Elizabeth (Dallas) and Peter Lauten (San Francisco) and brothers Charles and William Wulfing both of St. Louis. Born in St. Louis MO March 20, 1933, he was the son of the late Frederic Herber and Miriam (Betty) Elizabeth Wells Wulfing. He attended Community School and John Burroughs in St. Louis, Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y. and Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis for his MBA. Following his education, Fred worked for Monsanto Chemical Company in St. Louis, and later, for the Continental Bank of Chicago as an investment analyst.
Fred and his family moved to Atlanta in 1979 after a total of 14 years in Deerfield and Lake Forest, Illinois. In Atlanta, he worked for the C&S Bank as an investment analyst where he served many years on a key stock committee in a subsidiary of C&S Bank where he was part of managing $12 billion of investments for pensions and charitable trusts. This operation was very successful as rated by two top national auditors. He was in that position until 1990. Fred was a talented and award winning artist and was president of the Dunwoody Fine Art Association where he served as president for three years. People appreciated his leadership and some said his unique painting style reflected his special sense of humor.
He and Shirley enjoyed traveling to Europe, South America and Central America. They also loved spending time with the family at their summer home in Harbor Springs, Michigan. Fred enjoyed tennis, quick pitch softball and coaching his son's baseball and basketball teams.
Fred's charitable and volunteer activities included Interim Housing, the Atlanta Food Bank, the Central Presbyterian Night Shelter, and Sunday School President. He also participated in the community group activity and study concerning MARTA.
A Celebration of Life service with reception to follow will be held on Saturday, March 25th at 1 pm at Peachtree Presbyterian Church Kellett Chapel, 3434 Roswell Road, NW, Atlanta, Georgia. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Peachtree Presbyterian Church, or Dunwoody United Methodist Church.
