

George M Potter Jr., 81, of Doraville, GA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Halcyon House in Atlanta among family. Born in Pensacola, FL on February 23, 1936, George was the son of the late George M Potter Sr. and Helen (Jackson). He is pre-deceased by his sisters Virginia Stringer and Joy Davis.
Raised in Dahlonega, GA, he attended the local North Georgia College at the young age of 15 where he pitched for the college baseball team. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Physics in 1955, George attended the Georgia Institute of Technology. At Tech he completed a second Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, earning an outstanding 4.0 GPA in pursuit of the latter.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Janet (Rivers) Potter, his son George Potter III and his wife Polly of Kennesaw, GA, his daughter Sandra Cunningham and her husband Aaron, of CA, his daughter Susan Bray and her husband Chris, of Johns Creek, GA, and his son Brian Potter and his wife Davina, of Cumming , GA, and his eleven grandchildren: Eric, Rachel, Nicolas, Kieran, Hannah, George, Callum, Julia, Carrie, Brandon and Matthew.
George was an electrical engineer for over forty years. After his post-college military service, he started with Dynatronics where he designed equipment used by NASA space missions. He continued his design work with Scientific Atlanta and Aerospace Electronics before starting his own company, Interlind Electronics. He finished his career with Technology Service Group.
Although George derived great satisfaction from his career, he always made his family his first priority. He offered prideful and loving support to his four children; he never missed a single game or match. He adored his 11 grandchildren and was delighted to be their "Papa". He was an avid Braves fan and eagerly looked forward to each new season. His extraordinary wit, unwavering tenacity and generous understanding were an inspiration for all who knew him. His impact in this world was immeasurable, and he will be forever missed.
