George Mokbel Saad, 85, of Suwanee, GA and formerly of Dunwoody and Sandy Springs, died November 26, 2020. Mr. Saad was born in Beruit, Lebanon and was the son of the late Dr. Mokbel and Rashada Saad. Mr. Saad attended the highly acclaimed Robert College in Istanbul, Turkey before moving to the United States. Mr. Saad worked as a professor assistant at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA where he met his wife, Diane. He then continued his education at West Virginia University where he earned Master’s Degrees in both Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. His thought provoking thesis on rocket engine cooling systems is held in the Cornell University Library.
He had a long and distinguished career in public service as a General Engineer for the United States Department of Defense at Fort McPherson and Fort Gillem. He also played semi-professional international soccer in Turkey. In his spare time he coached youth soccer at the Ashford Dunwoody YMCA and enjoyed playing ALTA Tennis. He was a faithful servant to his church and had a remarkable chanting voice. Most importantly, he was always a loving and gentle father and husband.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Diane Carol Sharple Saad; son, John Michael Elias Saad and his wife, Susanne Estes Saad; grandchildren, Hannah Cary Saad, Davis Michael Saad, and Andrew Elias Saad; sister, Dr. Laura Saad Jabbour; and brothers, Murchid Saad and Sam Saad. Mr. Saad was the eldest of 5 children. Brothers Ramiz and Dr. Antione Saad passed in the last 3 years.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 7171 Glenridge Dr., Sandy Springs, GA 30328. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, December 3, 2020 at 2 o’clock at Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic Church with The Rev. Monsignor Joe Corbett as The Celebrant.
