

Gilbert Sidney Oakley, 72, of Marietta, died April 2, 2019. Mr. Oakley is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judi Duncan Oakley; and brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Jane Oakley. A Memorial Mass will be Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 11 o’clock at St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church, 3110 Ashford Dunwoody Rd., Atlanta, GA 30319. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Suthers Center for Christian Outreach. In memoriam: Sid Oakley, 3550 Broad Street, Suite F, Chamblee, GA 30341. Sid had a degree in chemistry and until he retired last year, was employed by Peach State Labs, Inc. as the Director of New Business Development. He has been active in St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church in Brookhaven since joining in 1998. Sid taught Sunday school, served on the vestry twice, co-chaired the Bazaar, has been an EFM (Education for Ministry) mentor for five years, chaired the outreach committee and recently was on the search committee for a new rector. He served for six years on the board of Emmaus House and two years as its chairman. He authored three books: two autobiographical and one historical fiction about pirates. Sid Oakley had a great passion for his faith, his many friends, helping those less fortunate, sailing, writing and especially for his beloved wife, Judi.
