Guy Richard Smith, age 82, passed away surrounded by family on November 11, 2025. Born on August 4, 1943, in Fort Macpherson, Georgia, he was the son of the late Roy and Rachel Smith. He was also preceded in death by his son, Cary Smith.
Guy is survived by his devoted wife, Jacqueline Smith, and his sons Kevin Smith and Matthew Smith; Matthew and his wife, Katie, blessed him with four beloved grandchildren — Silas, Levi, Roman, and Luca. He is also survived by his stepdaughter Christine Pirtle and her son William, and his stepson Danny Waddell and his daughter Anela.
A graduate of Hapeville High School, Guy went on to earn his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Georgia in 1966, where he was an active and loyal member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Following college, he served in the Marine Corps Reserves.
A lifelong Bulldog and die-hard UGA fan, Guy’s passion for the university never faded. Professionally, he made a lasting impact when he founded Planned Community Services, the first condominium and HOA management company in Georgia, which went on to manage some of the most prestigious properties in the Atlanta area.
Guy enjoyed an active social and sporting life and was a former member of Ansley Golf Club before becoming a long-standing member of the Atlanta Athletic Club. Throughout the years, he was also a committed member of the Methodist Church.
Known for his warm smile and genuine kindness, Guy never met a stranger. He was a quiet but constant giver to his community, always seeking ways to help without seeking recognition. He cherished traveling, especially to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, his favorite destination, and he found joy in boating on Lake Lanier, hiking, and exploring waterfalls. These were moments he most loved sharing with his wife, Jackie; they were inseparable, embracing every adventure together throughout their loving relationship.
H.M. Patterson & Son of Sandy Springs is entrusted with the arrangements, and Rev. Dr. Dee Shelnutt will officiate the service on November 23rd at 2:30 p.m. at The Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mount Vernon Hwy. A reception will follow. Family and friends are invited to gather, remember, and celebrate a life well lived.
