Harry Reynolds Hower transitioned to a higher ground on Thursday, March 20, 2014, after a hard fought battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Mr. Hower was born on July 29, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Anne M. Hower and Harry D. Hower. Mr. Hower attended University of Pennsylvania Wharton School, from which he graduated in 1953. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Hower dutifully served the United States in the Korean War, and it is widely reported that he was the individual who signed Elvis Presley’s discharge papers on March 5, 1960. Mr. Hower was a long-time resident of Colonial Homes in Buckhead where he lived for over forty years. In 2010, he moved to Brighton Gardens of Buckhead, where he was assisted by a loving group of people. For most of his professional life, Mr. Hower worked in the insurance industry. This included a span of employment with Johnson and Higgins, which was, at one point, one of the biggest insurance brokers in the United States. Mr. Hower ended his career in the Risk Management department of MARTA. Harry was a founding member of the Atlanta Ski Club, a staunch Republican, and a devout communicant at The Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta, Georgia. Harry never married, and is survived by his brothers, Bob G. Hower and Bill G. Hower. A Eucharistic Mass will be held at The Cathedral of St. Philip on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the Cathedral. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Georgia. In lieu of Flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or the Wounded Warrior Project.
