Helen Paris, a long time Atlanta resident and a frequent visitor to Dahlonega passed away at aged 99 on March 30, 2017. She was 12 days shy of her 100th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Wesley Paris, her son, Sam Paris, and her grandson, Lee Herron.
Prior to her death, her memoir, Born to Flirt, was published by Shadowridge Press. This work paints a vivid picture of her life before and during the depression, World War II, and family life with her children and husband Wesley Paris. It also encompasses her travels around the world and her perspective on aging and death.
She attacked all of her interest with zest and determination. These included: parenting in a creative way, homemaking and decorating, dress design, real estate, golfing, service to others and a special knack for bringing out the best in people. She was a Methodist, and had her own unique relationship with God. In her last years, she would say, “I am ready, but for some reason God is not.” On March 30, God was ready as well.
She is survived by three daughters: Elaine Winkler of Vinings, Anita Middleton and husband, Guy, of Dahlonega, Peggy Dawson Edwards and husband, George, of Sandy Springs, seven grandchildren, Mark Herron and his wife Susan, Tom Winkler, Dana Middleton and her husband Peter Atkins, Lisa Davis and her husband Robert, Sally Edwards and her husband Graham, Matt Dawson, Laura Dawson and her husband Jessie Jackson, six great-grandchildren: Catherine Herron, Karyn Blaylock and her husband Brandon, Will and Sam Edwards, Ned Andrews, Kathryn Davis, and one great-great grand-son, Charlie Herron.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to JDRF (research for Juvenile diabetes) 3525 Piedmont Re. NE. Bldg. 6 Ste. 300, Atlanta, GA 30305.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, April 9 at St. George Village in Roswell from 2 – 4 p.m.
