Herman Storick loved people. A world traveler, he made a friend in every country he visited. A friend that became life-long. Receiving cards from all over the world was commonplace during the holidays. Coming back from Europe for the first time in 1955 he felt the need to show foreigners how great New York was, as he considered it HIS city. He became a volunteer at the International Center taking visitors on walking tours all over the city showing the areas that only local people new about. This eventually became “New York Walkabout” which was a company he created in the 1980’s. At its height he had over 3,000 people on his mailing list from all over the world and was written about in many newspapers including the New York Times and was interviewed on both Television and Radio. Keeping with this theme, he started a very successful Corporate Travel Business in 1980, Storick Travel Services, which is now run by his son, Adam Storick. He was very supportive to numerous Jewish causes. He funded a Jewish Library in Nigeria where there is a small Jewish community. In 1994 he visited the Polish town of Jeleniewo where his mother came from at the turn of the century. He found the local Jewish Cemetery in disrepair. With the help of the local parish Priest, he had the cemetery restored and a monument placed at its entrance to assure all visitors new of history and community which once flourished there. He also published a booklet telling the story of his Uncle, wife, and 5 children who perished in the Treblinka concentration camp. Mr. Storick was preceded in death by his sisters, Gertrude Kaufman, and Evelyn Sobin. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cecilia G.
