Howard attended Brooklyn College and left a year early due to his early acceptance into NYU Dental School. It was during dental school that he met his wife, Carole, through his cousin Sandy, who he saw at a recent funeral. Sandy showed Howard a picture of Carole - and that was it! Howard called Carole the next day and the rest is history.
While Howard finished dental school at NYU and then served two years in the U.S. Army for Fort Lee, VA, Carole finished her college degree in teaching at Queens College. Howard remained in the Reserves for four more years and honorably discharged as a Captain. The military strengthened his deep sense of patriotism for the United States.
In the 1960s, Howard and Carole moved to Elmira, NY, where Howard opened a dental practice and had two children, Jay and Bonnie. It was at the age of 37 that Howard to apply to orthodontic school. Howard was accepted to Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, and the family moved to Shaker Heights for two years and rented out their home in Elmira so Howard could attend orthodontic school.
After completing orthodontic training and practicing in Elmira for several years, Dr. Kabinoff learned of an opportunity in Albany, NY. Howard relocated his family to Albany and joined a large dental practice. When the practice was later sold, Howard seized the opportunity to open his own orthodontic practice, which he operated until his retirement at age 73. He was deeply passionate about orthodontics and dedicated himself to his patients and staff.
Howard approached life with enthusiasm, compassion, and respect for others. He loved this country and often told his children that he was the American dream…someone who came from nothing. Howard was a deep thinker with a wonderful sense of humor. Above all, he had a profound love for his wife, Carole, and was a caring and devoted father and grandfather.
A year and a half ago, Howard and Carole moved to Atlanta to be near their daughter Bonnie, son-in-law Adrian, and grandson Ryan.
Howard embraced life in Atlanta, enjoying time with family and taking advantage of the city’s offerings. He attended performances of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and explored many restaurants - especially enjoying ribs at Joey D’s. He also cherished living at the Renaissance on Peachtree Rd, just down the street from his daughter.
Howard Kabinoff was born in Brooklyn, NY, on December 15, 1937, to Isadore and Rose Kabinoff. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Carole. He is also survived by his children: Dr. Jay Kabinoff, Dr. Aaron Bochniack, Bonnie Kabinoff Susmano and Adrian Susmano; and his grandson, Ryan.
