James “Jim” Maher passed away on Sunday, the 28th of November 2021 after an extended illness. He was born on Sunday, the 11th of January 1953 to James Maher, Sr. and Frances Smith Maher of Sandy Springs.
Jim a graduate of North Springs High School continued his studies at North Georgia College in Dahlonega earning a degree in accounting. He worked with the State of Georgia as a tax assessor for 30 years.
Jim was an avid football fan, every chance he got he watched the Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech. His favorite thing to do was playing billiards. He won many trophies. His proudest accomplishment was when his team won the National Title in 2000 in Las Vegas. He spent a lot of time watching billiards on TV to hone his skills.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Cam Quick and is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 39 years, DeAnn Taylor Maher; daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Brian Kelley, Christina and Christopher White; his beloved grandchildren, Leo White, Kaylin White, Idella Wright, Arya Kelley, and Sorcha Kelley; brother, Joseph (Terry) Maher of Lake Wylie, SC; sister Marianne (Colleen) Maher of Dundee, New York; mother-in-law, JoAnn Quick of Statesboro, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
Serving, as honorary pallbearers are Brian Kelley, Christopher White, Joseph Maher, Bobby Wright, Tim Sewell and Eugene Koo.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family Thursday, the 2nd of December from 1PM until 2:30PM at H.M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs, GA. A service celebrating his life will commence at 2:30PM and the family will again visit with guests following the service.
