Jane graduated from Bass High School and Agnes Scott College with a BA in art history and design and was president of the Art Student League. After graduating from Agnes Scott, she taught 2nd grade at Morningside Elementary. She married Larry Hailey in 1953 and became a stay-at-home mom with their three children. She was active in the children’s schools and was president of the Sagamore Hills Garden Club and the Cottage Garden Club. After raising her children, she began a 24-year career in interior decorating and design, decorating many homes in Atlanta and Ponte Vedra. She was a loyal and devoted friend who loved to entertain with dinner parties at her home in Atlanta and host weekend getaways to the mountains and the beach. Many of her friendships spanned over 80 years. Their beloved “Bridge Club” consisted of friends she and Larry had known since childhood, and the group had dinner once a month for over 60 years. She loved playing tennis at Cherokee Town Club, growing beautiful flower gardens, relaxing with a good book on Ponte Vedra beach, spoiling her dogs and cats, and painting beautiful oil paintings. She and Larry loved to travel and visited all seven continents.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Larry Hailey, their oldest son, Michael Lawrence Hailey, and her brother, Sam Dalhouse.
Jane is survived by her son, Reid P. Hailey (Hope), her daughter LeeAnn Young (Jay), her grandchildren (who knew her as Mumsie) Reid P. Hailey, Jr., Natalie Hailey, Brooks Young, Jack Young and Hailey Salter, and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to Northside United Methodist Church, or a charity of your choice. There will be a private graveside memorial.
