

Born in Atlanta in 1926. She attended R. L. Hope and E. Rivers grammar schools and North Fulton High School. For her undergraduate studies, she attended Stephens College and Vanderbilt University where she graduated with a BA Degree in 1947. For her elementary school teaching credentials, she completed courses at Emory and Oglethorpe Universities and received her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education at Georgia State University in 1972.
She taught Sunday School at The Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta during the 1960’s. She was an elementary school teacher in the Atlanta Public Schools and in the Cobb County School District. She retired after 30 years in public school teaching. Following retirement from full time teaching, she was a substitute teacher in the Atlanta and Decatur schools for four additional years.
Her favorite hobbies included tennis, biking, ballroom dancing and studying history through family genealogical research. She joined the Magna Charta Dames organization in connection with her family research. During World War Il she worked at the Bell Bomber Plant and later drove for the Red Cross Motor Corps. She belonged to the Atlanta History Center, the Jimmy Carter Center, the State of Georgia Archives, and the National Archives. She traveled as a member of the first Friendship Force trip to Newcastle, England in 1977, a cultural exchange ministry founded by President Jimmy Carter. In the late 1990s and early 2000s she worked in the area of geriatrics, driving elderly individuals to and from medical appointments. She also volunteered in the public school system, helping children with their reading.
She was a baptized and confirmed Episcopalian and a lifelong member of The Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta. She was an avid attendee of adult Sunday School and Bible Study at the Cathedral. She also worked as a volunteer receptionist there. She was a member of St. Veronica's Guild and the Welcome Committee Guild at her church.
Preceding her in death are her father Mark C. Pope, Jr., mother Nancy B. Pope, brother Mark C. Pope III and sister in law Betty Pope, all of Atlanta. Surviving her are her son Robert Boynton Adams, Jr. of Beaufort NC, brother Braxton Pope (Donna), niece Rebecca Coppedge (John), niece Nancy Glass (Mike), nephew John Pope (Harriett), nephew Mark Pope (Chilton), niece Patty Hatcher (Jim), and nephew Carter Pope (Bet), and a number of great nieces and great nephews, all of Atlanta.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 23, in the Mikell Chapel at The Cathedral of St. Philip 2744 Peachtree Rd NW Atlanta with interment in the church’s Memorial Garden columbarium following the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Cathedral of St. Philip. Arrangements by H. M. Paterson & Son.
