Jean Collins Chance

Jean was born on July 15, 1941, in Hawkinsville, Georgia, the beloved daughter and only child of Ira Tully Collins Jr. and Mary Lou Collins. Throughout her life, Jean was known for her kindness, generosity, sweet spirit, and, above all, her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She had a special way of making those around her feel welcomed, loved, and cared for.

For 66 years, Jean shared her life with her beloved husband and lifelong companion, Dave Chance. Their marriage was a beautiful example of love, commitment, friendship, and devotion. Jean poured her heart into caring for Dave and raising their family. Of all the roles she held throughout her life, none brought her greater joy than being a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Family was at the heart of Jean's life. Some of her happiest moments were spent caring for her grandbabies, enjoying family vacations to Hilton Head with those she loved, spending quiet time with Dave, talking and laughing with dear friends, and studying God's Word. She cherished relationships and never took for granted the simple blessing of being together.

Those who knew Jean will remember her gentle and sweet personality, her caring heart, and the genuine love she showed to others. She loved her family deeply and faithfully, and the influence of that love will continue for generations.

Jean is survived by her husband and mate for life, Dave Chance; her daughter, Cinda Chance Starnes (Chaz Starnes) of Moseley, Virginia; her son, Michael Chance (Amy Felton Chance) of Suwanee, Georgia; five grandchildren, Charis Nordberg (Nick Nordberg), Chloe Nobles (Matthew Nobles), Cana Goodwin (Matthew Goodwin), all of Moseley, Virginia, and Collins Chance and Davis Chance, both of Suwanee, Georgia; and seven great-grandchildren, Auden Goodwin, Coen Goodwin, Calah Goodwin, Ruth Nordberg, Levi Nordberg, Joelle Nobles, and soon to come Juliette Nobles, all of Moseley, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira Tully Collins and Mary Lou Collins.

Although Jean will be deeply missed, her family is grateful for the 85 years God blessed them with her presence. They will treasure the countless memories she created, the wisdom and love she shared, and the example of faith she lived before them. Her legacy will continue through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and the many friends whose lives she touched.

Jean's faith was not simply a part of her life - it was the foundation of her life. She loved Jesus Christ and found her hope and assurance in Him. Her family finds great comfort in knowing that the faith she held so dearly throughout her life has now become sight, and that she is at peace in the presence of her Lord.

“We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8

A celebration of Jean's life will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son-Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road NE, Sandy Springs, Georgia 30328.

Jean leaves behind much more than memories. She leaves a legacy of faith, devotion, kindness, and unconditional love - a legacy that will remain in the hearts of her family forever.
