Jennifer Garey passed away on July 18th, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jennifer will be lovingly remembered by her mother, Elsa Burson; her husband of 41 years, Paul; her children Erica Mason (Romel), Nick, and Alison; her sisters Bonita (Arnie) and Mitzie (Barry); and her granddaughter, Ava. She was an active leader in both the communities of Atlanta and Casco Viejo, Panama. She shaped the minds of countless young people as a teacher at the Children’s School and The Atlanta School in Inman Park, where she also served as Middle School Principal for over 25 years, and an active promoter of the nascent arts community in Casco. She was the hands-down coolest “Grammy” any grandchild could ever wish for!
Jennifer was a person whose achievements, which were many, do not adequately reflect her impact on the many families on Greenland Drive with whom she shared her life for over 40 years, her family, friends, and students, who she passionately loved. Jennifer was vivacious and quick to laugh, with a wry joie de vie that was reflected in her eclectic taste in literature, art, and music. Her passing will leave an empty place in the hearts of many. If we are judged by our impact on others, she will have a joyous afterlife.
Visitation will be held this Friday, July 20, 2018 between 7:00-9:00 p.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs.
To honor Jennifer’s wishes, donations in lieu of flowers should be sent to My Sister’s House, 921 Howell Mill Road, Atlanta, GA 30318.
