Joan King Falkenhainer passed away peacefully in hospice care on December 18, 2025 at the age of 74. She is lovingly survived by her husband, Steve Falkenhainer; her daughter, Liz Blackwell; her beloved grandson, Luke Blackwell; her sister-in-law, Kathleen King; her nieces and nephews; and many great friends who were like family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry A. King and Mary Elizabeth King; her brother, James A. King; and her son-in-law, Paul Blackwell.
Joan was born in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on October 4, 1951, and grew up in Buckhead, Georgia. She spent most of her adult life in Marietta, Georgia, a community she loved and called home for many years. Joan was a graduate of the University of Georgia.
Over the years, Joan built meaningful relationships through her work. She began her career working in her father’s drug store, where she learned the value of service and community. She later worked at a local bank and eventually became a familiar and friendly face at Elon Salon, where she enjoyed connecting with customers and colleagues alike.
Joan was known for always having a smile on her face and for her kindness to all. She remained positive and gracious through numerous health challenges, inspiring those around her with her strength and gentle spirit. She loved the beach, dining out at her favorite restaurants, and shopping with friends - simple joys that brought her happiness. A devoted animal lover, Joan especially cherished her dogs, with a special place in her heart for Hank, who was a beloved companion and source of joy.
Whether through a thoughtful word, quiet encouragement, or simply her steady presence, Joan made others feel welcomed, supported, and deeply cared for. Her family and friends will remember her for her grace, resilience, and the joy she brought into everyday life.
A service celebrating Joan’s life will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son – Arlington Chapel on January 11, 2026. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by the service at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a trust fund established for Luke Blackwell. Contributions can be sent via Zelle to [email protected].
