

She was born on July 27, 1939 in Monroe, NC to the late Mary Price Knight and Winfred Knight. Joan was a very talented cosmetologist - she enjoyed offering haircuts to anyone that needed one. She often gave haircuts to members of the Chamblee High School football team when her girls were in high school. Joan retired from Weyerhaeuser Company where she worked for many years as a meeting planner.
Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to so many. She never met a stranger and enjoyed making people happy. She loved to dance, tell jokes, eat ice cream, and be the life of a party, even when she was faced with dementia. Joan loved attending Dunwoody United Methodist Church and praising our Lord by singing hymns.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Jack H. Monroe of Atlanta, GA, her sister Ann Murphy of Charlotte, NC, her brother, Bobby Knight of Monroe, NC and her sons-in-law, Greg Barrick and Scott Parker. She is survived by her daughters, Teresa Barrick of Wixom, MI, and Kim Cunningham (Rhett) of Atlanta, GA and her grandchildren, Jenn Fulbright (Nik) of Milford, MI and Doug Barrick (Mia) of Grosse Pointe, MI, her four great-grandchildren, her brother-in-law, Jerry Murphy of Charlotte, NC, Beverly Merriam of Cumming, GA, and her dear friend and travel partner, Bill Rousseau.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 11 at 11:00 am at Shiloh Baptist Church in Monroe, NC.
