He was born in Charleston, West Virginia, and his family moved to Oregon. John received a B.A. degree from the University of Oregon, Eugene Oregon. He was an honor student and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He received a master’s degree in public administration at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colorado.
John served in the US Air Force and as a Police Officer in Caldwell, Idaho and Astoria, Oregon. He had a long career in security services for Wells Fargo where he retired in 2000.
In retirement he especially enjoyed golf, all spectator sports, reading, crossword puzzles, and the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren – particularly his grandson’s hockey games.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Harriet and four children – Johnny, Michele, Kiki, and Ryan. He had seven wonderful grandchildren – Carmen, Brittany, Matthew, Nicholas, Steven, Eva, Lea and two great-grandchildren - Kayden and Miley.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1 o’clock followed by a funeral service at 2 o’clock on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at H.M. Patterson & Son-Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Interment will follow the service at Arlington Memorial Park.
