John Cloyd Huffard died peacefully on February 16, 2026, surrounded by family. John will be remembered not only for the life he built, but for the way he lived it—with patience, honesty, and quiet kindness. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply and in the many lives he touched simply by being who he was. His memory will be cherished by everyone who knew him and loved him.
John shared a lifelong partnership with his beloved wife of sixty years, Jane Lineberger Huffard, a marriage built on deep affection and mutual respect. They lived the life that was inscribed inside their wedding rings, “my love, my life, forever”. Together, they raised a family that was the center of Jane and John’s world. He was the proud father of two sons and one daughter, and a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren. John didn’t seek attention or praise; he showed his love through consistency, careful listening, and unwavering support. His family knew they could always count on him.
John was born in New York City on October 31, 1936, and grew up on Long Island. After graduating from Manhasset High School, he attended Washington & Lee University, earning a degree in Business Administration in 1958. Following college, John proudly served his country as an officer in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. He was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, and Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and completed his service and was honorably discharged with the rank of First Lieutenant.
John enjoyed a long and distinguished career in finance and corporate leadership. He began his professional life with Union Carbide Corporation in sales in the Atlanta area. In 1961, he joined Southwire Company in Carrollton, Georgia, where he would spend more than two decades. During his tenure, John was sent to Brazil as Treasurer of a Southwire subsidiary, living in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Upon returning to Carrollton in 1963, he continued with Southwire until 1985, ultimately serving as Chief Financial Officer.
From 1985 to 1987, John served as Senior Vice President of Finance for John Wieland Homes in Atlanta. He later joined A.G. Edwards in Atlanta as Vice President of Investments, where he worked proudly beside his son, Haynes, until his retirement in 2004.
Faith and community were natural extensions of John’s devotion to family. He was deeply involved in his church, serving as both Deacon and Elder, not out of obligation, but from a sincere belief in service. He also gave his time to local organizations and boards, quietly working behind the scenes to strengthen the community he called home. John believed in contributing where he was needed and doing so with humility.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Cloyd Huffard and his sister, Mary Gwyn Schrieber. He is survived by his wife, Jane Huffard; his children, Jack Huffard (Katie) of McLean, VA; Gwyn Schneider (Tim) of Atlanta, GA; and Haynes Huffard (Wesley) of Atlanta, GA; He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jack, Sam and Brown Huffard of McLean, VA; Evans, Isabel and Porter Schneider of Atlanta, GA; and Hudson and Gill Huffard of Atlanta, GA.
A service celebrating John’s life will be held on March 1, 2026, at 2pm ET, at the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, 1328 Peachtree Street, N.E., Atlanta, GA 30309 followed by a reception at the Church. The service will also be live-streamed and the link will be provided on this site soon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in his honor to the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta Online Giving or the UNC Lineberger Cancer Research Center https://give.unc.edu/tribute/huffard to support Parkinsons research efforts.
