Mr Scalley and my Dad Charles Douglas were dorm roommates at GT and stayed great friends though out their lives usually meeting at least once a year to see GT win a football or Basketball game.  His wife Judy was always by his side after the game. Probably the only mistake she ever made was telling Jack and my Dad that it’s “just a game”. - which she was right!   Our whole family love the Scalley’s. I read the other notes all echoing what a great man he was   When my Dad passed three years ago Mr Scalley told me my Dad was “one of a kind”. Well Mr Scalley you are one of a kind too!  There is a mold called two of a kind! All our love. The Douglas’ 

So sorry to hear of John's passing.  I had the privilege of working with John over a seventeen year period and I always found him to be firm, but fair.  He set a very fast pace and was a terrific example of what an executive should be.  I professionally and personally benefitted a great deal knowing John and I draw on my GPC experience almost daily.  My sincerest condolences to John's family.  

In my heart, Jack will always be our ebullient neighbor (for 35 years), always  ready with a cheery greeting and concern for our well-being.  He and Judy became cherished friends.  We will miss him and always respect the man he was and the good he did in our church and the community.


I have so many memories working with John. My first memory was my first trip to Columbus as a new field rep. John was the VP of the Central Division. Along with others, John  scared me as well.  Many years later i was flying on the corporate jet going some where with John and i had the opportunity to see a different side of John. I learned a bunch from John and I think about him often and he was always GPC to me.

I am so sorry to hear about John's passing.  My memories of John go back oh so many years ago when I worked at NAPA/GPC.  Frankly, he used to scare the bejesus out of me but later I realized that  he would have that litlle smirk or smile on his face and he was really a wonderful gentleman.  Rest in peace, John, rest in peace.

I personally owe a great deal to John. He hired me as a trainee in Columbus in 1970 and continued to mentor me throughout my 34 year career at GPC. He was my boss much of the time but a good friend and advisor always. There are many people in this world who are better off because they knew John. One of John’s greatest attributes was you always knew where he stood on just about anything. He taught that to me and others. He had a long wonderful life. RIP John.
