Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved daughter, Allison Lynn Jones.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Ellen Jones, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage; his son, Brian Jones (Hatsumi); his brother, Duncan Jones (Linda); his sister, Martha Estes; and his cherished grandchildren, Christopher Hammond, Katie Hammond, and Aiko Jones.
After graduating from Douglas County High School, Joe earned his degree from Georgia State University, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
A man of deep faith, Joe loved the Lord and lived his life according to Christian values. Since 1974, he had been a faithful member of Kingswood United Methodist Church in Dunwoody, where he formed lasting friendships and served his church community with dedication. He was also an active member of the King's Class Sunday School.
Known for his kind and gentle spirit, Joe greeted everyone with a warm smile and welcoming presence. He will also be remembered for his exceptional storytelling, delighting family and friends with his wit, humor, and gift for bringing memories to life. An avid golfer, he enjoyed the game well into his 80s and treasured the camaraderie and friendships it brought throughout the years. He also enjoyed hunting in his younger years and valued the many lifelong relationships he built along the way.
Joe was a longtime member of the Sandy Springs Rotary Club and proudly served as its president. Through Rotary, he demonstrated exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the Georgia Rotary Student Program. His commitment to service left a lasting impact on fellow Rotarians and on the many students whose lives were enriched by the program.
Above all, Joe was devoted to his family, his faith, and his community. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose warmth, generosity, and steadfast character touched countless lives.
